International attention was not all positive. Members of the Irish press, for instance, criticized the federal government and the RCMP for actions taken under the War Measures Act. Cross’ brother-in-law, Trevor Dagg, criticized the federal government for not yet agreeing to release all 23 FLQ prisoners. According to Daag, Ottawa was more concerned with “los[ing] face in the eyes of the civilized world” than saving Cross’ life.
