During the flight to Cuba, Dier struck up a conversation with Jacques Cossette-Trusel, one of the FLQ members. He recorded his recollections of the conversation in this memorandum. Cossette-Trusel “appeared to have been very impressed by Cross as a person” and described the political conversations they would have together, the lengths that he and the other captors went to “sustain Cross’ morale,” and the concern they felt for Cross’ wife. Dier also asked questions about the general ideology and organization of the FLQ, and Cossette-Trudel answered that at this stage there was no central direction and cells were relatively independent.
