After the discovery of Laporte’s body, rumours spread that Cross had also been killed. These messages from Cross disputed the rumours and were circulated among the Task Force members for analysis. Copies were also sent to London. As the letter to the authorities shows, the issue of the political prisoners continued to be a point of contention in the negotiations.
