25 November 1970 – 4 December 1970
Cross was found on 3 December and successfully released following negotiations. It was business as usual for the Task Force in the days preceding his release: Sharp visited the United Kingdom to discuss the situation with British ministers, Barbara Cross sought to publish a letter to lift her husband’s spirits, and External Affairs tried to clarify guidelines for the protection of embassies. On 3 December, the Task Force received frequent updates, sometimes in 10 or 30 minute intervals, on the negotiations with Cross’ captors. Following his rescue, the Task Force arranged transport to Cuba.
