CDFB00534. 9 January 1985. Memorandum on the Missing MacKenzie [sic] King Diary, November 10 to December 31, 1945.

A Sunday Star article titled, “The Mystery of a PM’s missing diary,” dated 30 December 1984 speculated that Edouard Handy, King’s secretary, might have been involved in the disappearance of the diary. It also speculated that King himself destroyed the missing portion of his diary. Although Feather Bed had previously searched for the missing diaries, it was an “offshoot” of an unknown investigation. The demise of the Feather Bed section in the 1970s and the realignment of its resources lessened the importance of finding King’s diaries. There was no active search for the diary in 1985. While there were sufficient questions to interview Handy, there was little optimism that it would lead anywhere.
