Volume 1
Volume 1 covers Featherbed’s creation in 1958 and its early activities throughout the 1960s. Featherbed emerged as a direct response to the Soviet Union’s successes infiltrating the US government and fears that these successes might be repeated in Canada. Initially, Featherbed identified a series of suspected individuals and gathered information on their earlier political activities. Featherbed accordingly began by re-examining the existing files of Canadian high-level government employees in order to determine a list of individuals warranting closer investigation. In 1968, a specific Featherbed section was created, which assigned officers and allocated resources to uncover and neutralize any foreign agents within the Canadian government.
