CDFB00446. 9 October 1980. Memorandum Regarding Feather Bed (FB) from D.B. Smith, S/Sgt., International Obligations to Officer i/c “B” Operations.

Cossitt continued to ask questions about Feather Bed in the House of Commons, and Solicitor General Robert Kaplan voiced his desire to be more “forthcoming” in the answers provided by the RCMP. Responses typically consisted of a short “no comment.” Smith suggested briefing Kaplan on Feather Bed, as had been done with the previous Solicitor General, to emphasize that “for every detailed answer we provide we can expect five more questions will follow.” Smith deemed Cossitt’s fixation on Feather Bed to a result of his strong dislike for Trudeau. Smith felt continued non-committal replies were their only path.
