CDFB00225. 15 July 1977. RCMP Security Service Telegram B-219.
RCMP Security Service officers noted ongoing press interest in Feather Bed. The RCMP identified three main theories put forward by journalists regarding the contents of the file. The first was that it centered around an unspecified individual as a foreign agent. The second was that it was a constant watch by the RCMP on senior political leaders in Canada. Finally, the third theory was that Feather Bed looked into government officials who had been recruited and subsequently infiltrated the government, in reaction to similar cases in the United States and the United Kingdom. Furthermore, rumors circulated that members of Trudeau’s staff were among those targeted by the RCMP.
