Solicitor General Allan Lawrence had returned RCMP material on Feather Bed borrowed on 28 December 1979. Smith noted upon examining the returned material, the attachments numbers ran 168, 170, 171, and 169, despite it originally being numbered consecutively. He noted two possibilities to consider: one that the files were unstapled for easier reading, or; two, they were unstapled for copying.
