CDFB00525. 13 March 1985. Letter from A.M. Barr, Deputy Director, National Requirements, CSIS to J.M. Shoemaker, Senior Assistant Deputy Solicitor General, Policy and Security Branch.
In an earlier letter (CDFB00522), Shoemaker expressed the Solicitor General’s concern about the destruction of 136 Feather Bed files in 1979 and asked for further information. In response, Barr explained the files were indeed destroyed but not all at once in 1979. The files were destroyed over the 1958 to 1977 period, as per the authorized routine. Due to Commissioner M. Nadon imposing a moratorium on the destruction program in 1977 (until 1983), further files have not been destroyed since.
