CDFB00112: 24 February 1972. Memorandum By S/Insp. A.M. Barr Regarding Jean Daviault and Mackenzie King's diaries.

The memo began with an undated incident quoted from Peter Dempson’s 1968 book, Assignment Ottawa, of an unidentified individual known simply as “Jean” trying to sell portions of Mackenzie King's private diaries. The investigation eventually zeroed in on Jean Daviault, a former employee of the Dominion Archives Microfilm Unit who had access to Privy Council material and to the King papers. Further, there were reports that he had been actively trying to sell this material to various journalists. A request was made to fully identify Daviault and take appropriate action as needed.
