9 March 1967: NATO to External - ABMs and Arms Control
Canadian officials continued to seek out information on American thinking in order to prepare for the consequences of ABM deployment. In this telegram to Ottawa, the Canadian delegation to NATO passed along information they had received from the Americans concerning their upcoming arms control negotiations with the Soviet Union.
The Canadians were clearly worried about the broader-reaching consequences of ABM deployment, as they wrote: “If USA should decide to deploy ABM system such move would virtually rule out other arms controls measures, particularly Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty…”
