21 June 1967: Washington, DC to External - ABM Deployment Imminent

The Canadian embassy sent a warning to Ottawa that ABM deployment might arrive sooner than expected: “The explosion of a hydrogen bomb in China on June 17 has provided a splendid opportunity for all these who favour the production and deployment of a ballistic missile defence system in the U.S, to urge an early and positive decision.”

Embassy officials also identified leading proponents of ABM deployment in Congress, once again demonstrating that Canadians were engaged in detailed analysis of various American actors to understand how and when a deployment decision would be made.
