12 June 1967: Washington, DC to External - U.S. Preparing for ABM Deployment Vis à Vis China

After speaking with the State Department’s Special Assistant for Soviet Political-Military Affairs, officials at the Canadian embassy in Washington provided an important update to Ottawa regarding Secretary McNamara’s thinking on ABM deployment. While McNamara had previously been opposed to any deployment, Canadians now heard that that an ABM deployment would be coming in the near future in response to a potential Chinese threat.
