Paris no. 458 to SSEA

June 12th, 1953.  A telegram from the Canadian Ambassador to the SSEA detailed the French response to the conversation between the Soviet representative and French Air Security, as described in the above document (CDEX01195). While the SSEA had cautioned against revealing the pilot’s nationality, the French authorities “thought it better policy to reveal the national identity of the aircraft concerned” and spoke with the Soviets on June 4th.  In response to learning the aircraft were Canadian, the Soviet representative “made no comments” on the revelation.
