SSEA no. 459 to London

March 24, 1953. Writing twelve days following the attack on the British RAF Lincoln bomber, the Secretary of State for External Affairs Canada sent a telegram to the Head of Post. Though much of the content is sanitized, the subject of this message concerns the possible employment of RCAF squadrons in European airspace. Whilst Canada had no official occupational status in Europe, the attack on the British bomber, along with the shooting of a US plane culminated in a discussion of the role of Canada’s fighters in NATO Europe.
