CANAIRDIV AO206 to CANAIRHED

March 19th, 1953.  H. L. Campbell, First Air Officer Commanding 1 Air Divisionin Europe  described to Air Marshal C. R. Slemon, Chief of Air Staff the incident in which two RCAF fighters intercepted a Dakota over Metz at 2pm.  The two fighters thought they saw a red star on the Dakota and decided to trail it southeast towards Thionville.  The fighters ran out of fuel after circling the Dakota five times, returning to  Corn Beef, an American air control centre, and reporting the sighting.  No shots were fired during the interception, and the Dakota eventually landed safely in Berlin.
