CANAIRDIV to CANAIRHED, October 23rd

As a result of the situation in Cuba, the Canadian Air Division in NATO Europe took “precautionary and preliminary measures. At this time, the Air Division had not yet been placed on alert, although US forces had been. The Air Division’s precautions, listed in the cable, would ensure units were prepared for an alert when it came.

The cable also described the Air Division personnels’ view of President Kennedy’s plan described in his address to the nation (see CDNW12084) as “one of admiration and respect.”

An update to this matter was made on October 30th (see CDNW12291).
