Strategic & Diplomatic Considerations

The Korean conflict was wholly unpredicted by the western powers. Thus, responding to the United Nations’ urgent call for help became a matter of strategizing and organizing with other countries, in particular the United States and the Commonwealth states, at External Affairs, as well as by the Cabinet and Chiefs of Staff. As the conflict developed and Canada’s commitment deepened, Canadian perspectives appeared to gradually diverge from the perspective of other players, particularly of the United States.
