The diverse backing of the UN Forces revealed the distinct motivations of many non-Canadian players, with notable distinctions emerging even amongst the Commonwealth nations. Canada often played a mediating role between Commonwealth members, like India, and the United States. Furthermore, the UN itself struggled to define its priorities, and Canada worried that the Commonwealth and the United States risked redefining the UN mission in dangerously militant terms.
