Successes from Ottawa, March 1952 - August 1953

In many ways, this period of de-escalation was experienced as a moment of triumph for Ottawa. Although Canada struggled to communicate its goals and intentions in the Far East, especially in relation to their more powerful allies, the Canadians felt optimistic about the emerging diplomatic conditions and prepared to stand with their allies if hostilities reignited. Many of the concerns which Ottawa faced were not only about the ongoing conflict, but also indicated the lingering questions about what type of world would emerge afterwards, as the United Nations, Commonwealth cooperation, and the Cold War all took on new dimensions.
