CDKW00731 - Troop Reductions

This note from 1 November 1954 outlines the plan to withdraw all Canadian forces from the Korean theatre. Based upon this timeline, all Canadian forces were to be withdrawn by spring 1955, with some smaller units brought home based on airlift availability and some with scheduled leave dates. Removal of Canadian troops was a source of immense relief for Ottawa, who had been trying to bring home all troops since the armistice in the summer of 1953. Although it would be a couple of months until all troops returned to Canadian soil, for diplomats in Ottawa, this marked the end to what they considered a successful conflict in Korea.
