3 September 1952: Comments on the UK Strategic Concept
After attending a presentation by Sir John Slessor about the Global Strategy paper, Lt. Gen. Guy Granville Simonds, Chief of the General Staff, sends his notes and additional remarks to Brooke Claxton, the Minister of National Defence. Simonds describes the British desire to participate in strategic bombing and develop atomic weapons of their own “at the expense of building up forces which could not be deployed in the first few vital weeks.” In detailed notes, Simonds outlines the British reasoning behind their proposals.
