11 December 1950: Arneson to Ignatieff
In this letter from R. Gordon Arneson, who served as Special Assistant to the Secretary of State for Atomic Energy Affairs, to George Ignatieff, Arneson recalls the Canadian government’s view that inter-government consultation was a dire necessity before use of the atomic bomb. However, in quoting the Truman-Attlee meetings, Arneson reiterates that Truman would “keep the Prime Minister at all times informed,” extending this to include the Prime Minister of Canada.
