Figures/Statistics and the Search for Recruits in the Canadian Armed Forces

The BSC requested estimates of the number of men of Yugoslav origin in the Canadian Army, including second generation figures. George Glazebrook of the DEA encountered two issues: Army records lumped Yugolavs into a general Central European category, and birth records showed "the name of the country at the time they were born there" (CDYS00035).

Glazebrook and Army records officers were eventually able to identify eleven Serbs and three Montenegrins. These numbers could not produce the "up to one hundred" recruits envisioned by the BSC.
