7 December 1943: Martin to Stone

It was then left to DEA officials to sort out how and why diplomatic telephone traffic had been monitored by the Chief Telegraph Censor. Thomas Stone reached out to E.A. Martin for an explanation. Martin in turn reached out to T.E. Powers, a senior cable censor, who reported that he had been sending reports on the conversations between the Russian consulate and Russian legation at the request of Martin’s predecessor. Martin asked for these activities to stop.
