Closure of Oshawa Transmitting Station

Dublin Core

Date

Description

Letter from W.H. Finch, DCRS2 to DCRS indicating External Affairs' intention to close the Oshawa Transmitting Station, and request for DM signature to assent to closure. External Affairs notes their responsibility for policy relating to certain submarine cable channels routed through Rockcliffe. Explains reason for this was to "enable bulk tariffs to apply by having one common connection point on each side of the Atlantic and to enable radio back-up." Arrangements continued when Hydra Tape Relay Centre closed. Letter indicates both EA and DND are anxious to close Oshawa.
