Visits and Personal Contact

These documents provide glimpses of Canadian and BSC personnel’s visits to New York and Ottawa. They indicate that certain sensitive orders of business were discussed in person, rather than via letter or cypher telegram. Less sensitive (and sometimes less official) matters like the challenges of procuring sunglasses amidst wartime shortages could be put in writing. 

This fragmentary evidence strongly suggests that security and intelligence personnel like George Glazebrook, Tommy Stone, Jock Murray, William Stephenson, Pat Bayly and Herbert Sichel enjoyed working and socializing with one another.
