Our reference; GSS 1 7 4 9 / 6 4
Your reference:

Transatlantic Telegraph Communications
As mentioned in his letter of 15th January, Ted Maltby has passed
me a copy of your letter to him reference HQTS 1250-36(Sigs.2A) dated
17th December, 19^3 5 about the proposed re-arrangement of the Ministry
of Defence/Washington Embassy telegraph channel. I v/as very glad to
learn that you will be able to handle the switching of tliis circuit
at O.T.G. Leitrim and later at Carp.
2.
I gather from the reference in your letter to a requirement for
two landline "tails" between the C.O.T.C. terminal and O..T.C. Leitrim
that the Washington/Leitrim channel will be routed Via Montreal. I can
assure you that the U.K. will accept the installation and recurring
costs involved in the provision of both the Montrea]/Leitrim "tails"
and I hope to arrange for these to be paid for in the U.K. and in
Washington, respectively, as part of the U.K./Leitrim and Washington/
Leitrim channels.
3." I
of the
should
obtain
of the

vd.ll let you know just as soon as possible of the proposed timing
re-arrangement. The Post Office have already advised us that it
not take very long to provide the main channel but we have yet to
information as to how much time must be allowed for the provision
Washington/Leitrim channel.

4«
Perhaps you would care to nominate a contact officer with whom
Mr. V.J. Habberfield, the officer on my staff dealing with the rationalisation
of Government rented cable channels, can deal on questions of detail,
as may be necessary.
