MEMORANDUM
HQS 1260-3-2 (D Sigs)

Aug 63

Sigs 2
Tape Relay Equipment'
HYDRA TRC
1.
When the HYDRA TRC transfers to CARP STRAD, the
existing torn tape relay centre at LEITRIM will become
redundant.
2.
The CASS' has need of additional torn-tape relay .
equipment to cover-.several functions, of which the following
are examples:
a,, to install a 3 cabinet (9 circuit) tape-relay
•. backup at CARP,, to be available for the termination
and operation of principal trunk circuits in
the event of a major outage of STRAD;
b.. to provide adequate cabinet operation at certain
minor centres now forced to operate on an
individual equipment set basis (eg LONDON,
KINGSTON);
c. to provide a small telegraph relay centre at
PETAtfAWA or KINGSTON as an alternate to GARP,
so as to be capable of keying RICHARDSON (and
perhaps OSHAWA) if CARP is out of action;
d.

to improve our installed relay centre capacity
at BRIDGES; under the budgetary limits of Project
BRIDGE we installed only enough cabinet equipment
to terminate a total of 3 circuits on each trunk
route, yet we plan 2 leased circuits, 2 HF and 1
LF circuit; at present the remaining 2 must be
terminated on circuit control; it is desired to
have all these circuits extended'to the relay
centres so as to have all available without
patching delays in an emergency.

3.
Can you state whether the LEITRIM torn-tape equipment
can be made available after the successful cutover to STRAD?
0-' If so, how much is involved? ^ffnat pattern is it?£yDoes it
belong to the Army?
