I fear the official mail between our two headquarters takes a considerable time, and as I informed you on the phone, I tried to contact you on Friday (18th) afternoon, only having received your letter that day. I must confirm now that the Americans have changed their minds and decided that the Engineer they have at present is capable of training others satisfactorily; incidentally, I have procured a full supply of all Rockex spares for them and I hope this will make a difference. I apologise for any inconvenience you have been caused, and very much regret the change of heart as I am sure this would have been a good thing. Qpyf^ 2. ?b^ Northern Trip You will have appreciated from what I said yesterday that I was only asking you for dates or tentative dates in order to try and fix on a trip to the South which has been scheduled for some time. I am afraid the time has come to make a decision and the people down there are anxious to get the job done. I do not think I shall be available, therefore, between October 13th and the end of the month. In view of what you tell me of your and others' plans, do you not think it would be better to post-pone it till next Spring, which as you say would be a very much better time to go. Personally, I am quite happy to do this, particularly if it would make matters mora easy for you. I confirm that I have official sanction from London to make this trip. 3. Duplex Circuit Washington-Ottawa I discussed this yesterday with our friends down here and they will be getting in touch with you about the plan to go Duplex.
