REPLY TO BE ADDRESSED T O :
THE UNDER-SECRETARY OF STATE
FOR EXTERNAL AFFAIRS
OTTAWA

EXTERNAL. AFFAIRS
CANADA

Ottawa, October 5, 1946.

Dear Charles:
Apropos of our conversation the other day
concerning the taking over of the wireless station
at Oshawa, I enclose a copy of a Signal which has
been received from London on the subject.
You will see that difficulties are now
beginning to occur at the London end and that we are
under some pressure on this question. I should be
grateful therefore if you could raise the matter as
early as possible with Mr. Abbott so that we shall
be in a position to give a decision to London. •
Yours sincerely,

Lieut.-General Charles Foulkes,
Department of National Defence (Army),
Ottawa.

(1) I discussed with Robertson in Paris in August

the need for the earliest possible Canadian decision
about Hydra and he promised to forward an official
signal on the subject immediately he returned to
Canada.
(2) No news has however yet been received and the
position here is becoming somewhat strained.
(3) Would be very grateful if you could help to
clear up this matter urgently and also if possible
for an interim reply by P. M. Monday explaining
present position.
