Bear Sir Edward*

/.

X have been very interested in hearing
an account of the Commonwealth Signals Intelligence Conference* It appears to have been a most useful meeting
and the results are quite satisfactory to the Canadian
authorities concerned, I7e are still in process of reorganising the Canadian e entre but this will not# of course,
interfere with current arrangements and work*
I notice in tho report of the United
Hngdom»Vnit©d States Technical Conference at paragraph
3{a) that it le stated that Hydra will be maintained and
operated by the United Klncdora. I would suggest that in
tho final version of that document this paragraph should be
revised to read as follow©i
«

>• controlletjby British Commonwealth
authorities »*#»•»
The sentence "London will
control1' could thon be omitted, or replaced by
"London and Ottawa will control".
Thia would make that paragraph consistent with paragraph 2.
Jfes CXftEebrook has told me of his
conversation with yourself and your collea^uea on the future
of Hydra and I feel that from every point of view it; would.
be better if thio station were taken over and operatod~oy
Canada. I hope soon to be in a position to send more
detailed suggestions on this point.
I should like to take this opportunity
of expressing our appreciation of your assistance and kind
hospitality to the Cfnadian representatives who were
attending those Conferences.
Youra sincerely*
