My opposition to the adoption of the ABM program is basically because of the tremendous waste involved. We admittedly have hungry people, crime problems, a shortage of housing, inflation beoause of a senseless war that will eventually destroy our economy, and probably the most -uninformed and apathetic population of any country on earth* Our foreign polioy has reduced us to a second rate power and has set the communist timetable for world takeover ahead by many years. We don*t dare end the war in Vietnam for fear of the depression that would result. In spite of all this, our leaders are trying to sell a useless ABM defense system to our already overburdened taxpayers. Completely aside from the danger of nuclear explosions over your country is the danger that your economy will suffer along with ours when ourminflation bubble bursts. Unfortunately, our economy requires supplemental "make-work" programs in order to survive* are examples. Our moon program, the Vietnam war and the ABM system Many of us recognise that our inflation spiral cannot continue, and we are aware that the ABM spending program, added to our other expenses, will make the break more severe than otherwise. As for Russia or China attacking America - this is a myth built up very carefully and completely in order to condition our people to acceptance of military projects* Russia will have to destroy China's nuolear weapons within a very few years, and China is desperately stalling £or time to prepare, but neither of them has even one single thing to gain by attacking America* Sinceeely yours, \ M.J. Russia will be forced within a few years to destroy China's nuclear potential, end China must prepare for that day, but neither of them has a single thing to gain from an attack on America. It is common knowledge that the very first explosion in a missile war •would 3am the A M guidance radar for several minutes, rendering the whole ABM concept useless* Add this to the fact that absolutely nothing has been done about providing meaningful survival training or fallout shelters, and it becomes obvious that saving lives is not and never has \mep the goal of the ABM system.
