Tripartite security talks.

Following for N.A. Robertson from Wrong, Begins:
1.
After further consultation between the United
States officials concerned we have been told that it would
be more convenient to the United States authorities that
the tripartite security meeting should be held in Washington on the 15th and 16th of May. Apparently Commissioner Glennan, who vrould lead the United States tean,
will not be available for about two weeks after May 19th.
This fact was not revealed until an Inter-departmental
meeting took place in Washington on this subject this
afternoon. Could you let me know whether these hew
arrangements proposed would suit those concerned in
Ottawa?
2.
The British Embassy Indicate that this arrange,
ment would probably be convenient to the United Kingdom.

As regards the question of an advance press
release, from preliminary reactions here, I judge that
we varill have difficulty in persuading United States
officials of the possibility of avoiding any press
release on this meeting. As you may recall, this
question came up with reference to the tripartite security conference held in London last July. It was then
argued that, as leaks would almost certainly occur, it
was better to agree in advance upon some statement acceptable to the three governments, which would play down the
significance of the conference and relate it to previous
talks held on the same subJset. I draw your attention
particularly to my WA-2755 of July 6th, 1951. Ends.
