Detailed reports for sixteen iiiajor Canadian cities have been •"written to £ive full information on the effects on individual vital points, and the methods by which these effects have been calculated, 2. These reports i;ill total in all some 400 pages. Reading this mass of data leaves no clear impression of ths relative damage around different aiming points, nor of the extent to vjhich any particular industry would be affected by attacks on any particular combination of aiming points. 3. An attempt has, therefore, been made to design a summary which will show readily, in table form, all the effects of any one explosion and also the relative importance of different timing: points in an attack on any particular industry in Canada. 4. In any large city there is a very large number of possible aiming points, according to the particular combination of effects the enemy might seek. The study cannot assess every oossible aiming noint. It has been confined to the most important aiming points, attacks upon which would have the maximum effect on population or on industry. Attacks on other aiming, points ijould have different combinations of effects, but would be less important. 5. The summary has been prepared in two versions. In one version, the effects are shown in all cases in terms of the nuraber of vital points affected, their category, and the percentage of damass caused. The second version attempts to take account of the relative output of the vital points, by express in-s the damege to each industry in terms of the dollar value of production'which would be lost if the level of damage experienced persisted for a year. 22 June, 1955.
