W e have today received a l etter dated D ecem ber 34, 1953, from the D epartm ent of External Affairs, saying that the C om m ander-in-C hief, B.C *F*K •» has advised that 60 Indian Field Am bulance U nit w as w ithdraw n from 1 C om m onw ealth D ivision on August 29, to becom e part of the Indian C ustodian Force in the D em ilitarized Zone, and that the fi el d am bulance unit w i l lreturn to -India w ith the C ustodian Force w hen the l atter com pletes i ts w ork in Korea. 2. The C om m ander-in-C hief has asked i furgent consideration could be given to the supply of a replace m ent fi el d am bulance. This i s not required at present but w ould defi nitely be required should hosti l i ti es break out again. 3. The U nited Kingdom authorities have ad vised that no U nited Kingdom fi el d am bulance can be m ade available in the foreseeable future and have enquired w hether a replacem ent could be provided by Australia. I ti s understood that a sim ilar enquiry has been directed by the U nited Kingdom to New Zealand.
