General
This report covers the discussions during
a technical conference in connection with the
building of a new Special Wireless Station.
The
subjects discussed during this conference were
proposed under the heading or "Agenda for Discussion" in a report dated 27th June, 1941. Results
or discussions are given below under various sideheadings.
1.

Type or Building

This question was brought up by "¼ijor Wethey
a discussion was held, the following
conclusions were arrived at:-

(a) It was agreed that it would be inadvisable to
construct a building which ma.y 1n future be
used as a Signals Radio Station.
It was the~etore proposed to build a frame building, well
insulated, with clap-board exterior,
which
would be written orr after the war.
(b) The question of using an oil burner ror heating
the statio~ was dis~ussed and it was decided to
leave this _atter to the !!:ngineers tor a final
decision.
(c) It was decided that as soon as the final sketch
tor the building was completed, it would be
turned over to ~ajor H.E. ?laple and Capt. Ahearn
w1th instructions
to proceed w1th the plans and
specifieatio!lS

After a discussion an this subject, it was
agreed tbat the 1l08t expeditious channel to be

a complete and detailed list or all the
technical equipnent
and submit same to
lo!ajor Wethey, S.D.4.
(b) Jlajor Wethey in turn will submit this
to the D.T.R. (Slgs) tor action.

(a) In view or the tact that the British Marconi
Co. require a delivery period or 12 months
on DFG12Direction Yinding equipment, it,was
decided to approach the Canadian Marconi Co.
and investigate
the possibility
or haTing
this type or equipnent manufactured in Canada
to the specifications
or the British Marconi
~o.
(b) In order to expedite matters, it was decided
that Capt. Drake and Lieut. Pick will communicate with Cmdr. De1larbo!s or the Naval Service
to obtsin all the facts enterill8 into the
manufacturing of this equipment in Canada.

DeMarbois, arrangements are to be made for
Capt. Drake and Lieut. Pick to proceed to
~ontreal and discuss the final matters nth
the Canadian Marconi Co.

Equipment

(a) It was agreed that the necessary maintenance
equipment·should be purchased for the new
station to enable the station to carry out
its own first and second line maintene.nce and
repairs.

5.

Purchase or Property

for the New Sites

(a) ~aJor Wethey adv·is-ed that this matter will be
i~ the hands ot the Engineers who will attend
to such matters once the sites have been located.
(b} In ord~r to locate suitable sites,
it wae agreed
that a representative
fro:?! the R.c.c.s. will
be sen~ to the districts
where the sites are
required for the purpose o! making a complete
survey.
This representative
will work in close
collaboration
with the District Engineering
Officer.
(c) Tt.e D.o.c. or the District is to be advised
that an officer will report in his district
tor the ,Purpose of making a survey tor a suitable si.te and that he will require the dutrict
to supply him with the necessary transport
tor selecting suitable sites.
