This Agreement which has been renewed annually will expire unless extended until June 30, 1962. I have been instructed to inform you that the Canadian Government has reviewed the terms of the agreement and would be agreeable to have it continue in force, subject to one amendment, for a further period of one year, i.e., until June 30, 1963* My Government suggests that the term "Air Defence Readiness" in your Note be altered to "Defence Condition 1 (DEFCON 1 )" in order to conform with NORAD's current terminology for this state of the Command's readiness. If the foregoing is agreeable to your Government I propose that this Note and your reply thereto should constitute an agreement between our two Governments to amend and extend the Exchange of Notes of June 30, 1959 accordingly.
