I believe

the following
extract
from a letter
0'Hagan in Berlin may be of in•

I have had from Capt.

terest

to you:

nrn my letter
of February 24th concerning the
recent visit
of the Bundeskanzler
to Berlin. I ment·oned that one of my neighbours
at the supper given
y the Senate of Berlin to Dr. Adenauer was a Frau
Magda _Schroedter,
and it occurs tom~ that you might
perhaps be interested
in hearing a little
of the FDP
member of the Berlin House of Representatives.
2.
nFrau Schroedter
who i:s now 65 years old (and not
to be confused with the more well-known Frau Luis·e.
Schroeder,
who was from 1949 to 1951 the SPD Deputy
·
Lord Mayor of Berlin) was elected in 1946 as FDP •
member for Ber lin-'l'reptow
in the then· House of Representatives
for all Berlin including
the Russian Secto~
Her home was at . that time at •rreptow in· the Soviet
Sector, and she still
continues to live there.
In·195~
she was re-elected
as a member of the West Berlin
House of Representatives
which had been formed as
a result
of the split in Berlin Municipal Government
in 1948.

Ext. 182A (Rev. 2/52)

3. ur asked Frau Schroedter
if she was the only _
member of the West Berlin House _of Representat"ives
who was resident
in the Russian Sector, and she told m
that each of the three parties
had at leas~ one member
in the same position.
I also asked her whether eithe~
the Soviet or DDR authorities
made any difficulties
for her in her daily travel to and from work, and
she told me that this had not yet occurred,
although
at the time of the June 17 rising
last year she
was unable to return home for nearly three weeks and
was stranded in the Western Sectors without so
•
much as a tooth brush or change of clothing l ( This -~of course occurred to many people on both sides of
1
the line).
Apparently Frau Schroedter
travels
by
S-Bahn from the Soviet Sector to a station
in the
British
Sector and is picked up there by a car from /
the Senate which takes her to the Rathau·s.
,,
I

4. ttShe stated that she had been -.called in several
times to the local Headquarters
of the Peqple's
Police
and questioned,
although she was not subjected to anJ
actual ill treatment;
and she tells
me that on one
of these occasions
she was asked by the polic$ inspector:
"Which country do you love the most?
