In accordance with the provisions of Article IX, paragraph 5, of the Treaty, the Secretary of State has the honor to inform the Chiefs of Mission that an instrument of accession to the Treaty was deposited with the Government of the United States of America by Bahrain on November 3, 1988. The final provisions of the instrument of accession read, in part, as follows: "NOW, THEREFORE, the Government of the State of Bahrain hereby accedes to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, opened for signature at London, Moscow and Washington on July 1, 1968, and undertakes faithfully to fulfill and carry out the stipulations therein contained, with the following reservation: The accession by the State of Bahrain to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear weapons, 1968, shall in no way constitute recognition of Israel or be a cause for the establishment of any relations of anykind therewith. " The Secretary of State would be grateful if the Chiefs of Mission would forward this information to their respective Governments.
