You enquired, with reference to my memo**
randum to you of December 9 on the above subject,
whether there was any particular reason for which
the State Department had sought an extension of the
present authority for three and a half months.

gramme to develop an airborne alert capability in 1959,

has been sought have varied but the United States authorities have always been responsive to the suggestion made
some time ago not to seek approval for a lengthy period
