U.S. zone from Paris to Berlin transporting
Soviet delegate
from U.N. was intercepted
over Metz, France, by two Canadian
F-86 fighters
at 1232 hours Greenwich.time
March.19.
Soviet
pilot
reported
to air traffic
control,
Frankfort,
that fighters
were flying around his plane.
He later
reported
that planes
were staying with him and requested
they be instructed
leave.
Soviet pilot
did not specifically
express alarm in calls
to
Frankfort.
Air control
center for fighter
planes involved states
two F-86 aircraft
made five passes at Soviet C-47 over Metz
and turned it 80 degrees off course.
No shots fired.
F-86
aircraft
broke off contact
on instructions
from base.
In event protest
from Soviet Foreign Office,
