Exercise MORNING HIST", taking place 23 September to 3 October 1954, is scheduled to include a Danish combined service exercise called "SKANDAEK HIST". 2. " SKANDAEK LlST" is to be conducted by Danish authorities under the sponsorship of CILCNORTH. 3. llein feature of "SKANDAEK HIST" is an oxerciso to block the exits of the BALTIC Sea and it is dosirod that the operations in this exercise should include: a• Dsfensivo minelaying (simulated) in Danish waters. b. Cover of those minolaying operations against surface attack. o. Prevention of minor amphibious landings on the Danish Islands. (Excluding BOFNHOI1). d. Attack on submarines attempting passage of B.LTIC exits. 4. To provide the opposition essential to give realism to the operations outlined in paragraph 3 above, CIECEASTLANT may provide two British destroyers and one or two submarines to augment the Danish forces employed in the onemy role in the exercise. 5. It is not planned that any of the naval forces participating in "SKANDAEK LIST" and operating in the BALTIC will steam East of Longitude 17E. No vessel will onter recognized territorial waters of any nation except DENARK. No ships (except Danish) or forces will enter the harbors of BORNHOI. 6. Haritime part of "SKAIDAEK HIST" consists of a defensive mining exercise in THE SOUND and BELTS covered against surface and air attacks. 7. The Danish submarines will probably operate North of BORNHOIN. 10. The air attack, if it can be arranged, will be carried out by NATO aircraft and will be restricted to vessels taking part in the exercise in Danish waters. II. These operations in the BALTIC will take place on two consecutive days during the period 26 to 30 September inclusive. The following additional operations in connection with 12. "SKANDAEK MIST" are scheduled to take place between 23 September and 3 October 1954: a. Air operations by NATO forces over Danish territory. b. Sea mining (with dummies) from the air in an area off the West Coast of DERIARK may be carried out. C. An Army exercise on Danish territory, mainly in JUTLAND. d. Small scale landings on the Danish coast outside the BALTIC. 13. Date and details of press release will be forwarded in due course when determined. 14.
