JAN 24 1953

I refer to conversation (Air Commodore Rutledge 1.
Mr. Davis) concerning NATO exercises in Europe which involve
Canadian forces. It is not possible to outline in detail
the participation of Canadian forces but as a guide, exercises
carried out by the Northern Army Group will likely include a
portion, and in some cases, the whole of the Canadian army
forces; exercises involving the 4th Allied Tactical Air Force
will likely include some, or all, of the Canadian aircraft.
2.
In view of the political discussion which arose from
exercise ’’Main Brace”, I am sure that, when the’scope and
locale of any exercise including Canadian forces gives rise to
political implications, the Canadian authorities will be
consulted.
