Miss Sabourin normally kept an office diary, but October 5th was blank. She was kept very busy between her own office and the Op Centre. Being French speaking Canadian, she felt indirectly responsible for the crisis. Did AER discuss the crisis? He did not discuss it with Miss Sabourin. AER routinely saw the Minister daily. Both AER and SSEA made Independent contact with people they normally would not be in contact with, particularly in Quebec, and Montreal. AER did not tape his telephone calls except perhaps in the Op Centre. AER was greatly affected by the death of Laporte. What problems were most important to AER? Negotiations were the most difficult. Was Cross' personal safety a high priority with AER? Probably. Did AER try to encourage concessions for that reason? Miss Sabourin did not overhear any discussion on this subject, and was not herself in favour of concessions of any kind. Who originated the safe conduct? Mile. Leclerc made up the actmal travel document.
