Dear Mr. Reid:
I beg to acknowledge with thanks receipt of your
letter of the 12th instant with its enclosure of memorandum
prepared by the Military Attache at the Canadian Embassy,
Paris, relating to the request made to Eldorado by the Institute of Nuclear Research, University of Strasbourg.
I am suggesting to Eldorado that its price list be
forwarded to Dr. Gorodetzky and suggesting also that similar
information be furnished to the other enquirers in Western
Europe. I am also asking Eldorado to let me have a copy of
the price list for forwarding for transmission to the Military
Attache and to let me know the date on which the document was
forwarded to each of these European enquirers.
I should perhaps say that the references in the
Military Attache's memorandum to ounces and tons of the material
indicate^ some misunderstanding as to the materials involved.
Ordinarily radium, polonium, radium "D", etc., are dealt with
in quantities measured in milligrams, or at most, a very few
grams.
Referring to your letter of 27 September last, and
particularly to the relation of these radioactive materials to
the current discussion of the joint export program proposed
by the United States, I think that they will undoubtedly be
discussed and possibly some lines laid down , but I understand

from informal conversations with U.S. representatives,
that they would not be disturbed by shipments of any
quantity that would ordinarily be made for medical or
even university research purposes.
Yours sincerely,

G. M. Jarvis,
Secretary.
