As. ssss: In your letter to L4r, Green of July 8, you suggested that he might raise with &*• Herter while the latter was in Ottawa, the possibility of a meeting later this summer of the Canada-United States Ministerial Committee on Joint Defence. Mr. Green left Ottawa this morning and will he away for a few days. I ti oat in the circumstances I should let you know that Mr. Green did raise the subject with Mr. Herter in the course of their meeting on July 11. Mr. Herter was unable to commit himself to • time for the mee of the Committee because of the uncertainties arising out of the uenega Conference and the possible Summit Conference. He did, however, agree to consider the possibility of a Committee meeting later in the summer, she matter was left that we would Psprthtr from Washington as to a possible date for a Committee meeting. There was only brief discussion of the Kins of subject matter which might appear on the agenda. Mr. Green mentioned that Ministers might wish to deal with the question of the storage of nuclear weapons in Canada.
