This agreement was made in 1959 and was tabled in the House of Commons by the Prime Minister on May 25, 1959. It provides for the exchange of information and equipment but does not deal with the supply of nuclear warheads.* The Canadian position concerning nuclear weapons, as stated in the House of Commons by the Prime I-Iinister, is as follows: Hansar.4..-,, yebrjaftry ,20, 1959 (a) "The Government is ... examining with the United States Government questions connected with the acquisition of nuclear warheads for BOtlARC and other defensive weapons for use by the Canadian forces in Canada, and the storage of warheads in Canada. Problems connected with the arming of the Canadian brigade in Europe with short range nuclear weapons for MATO*s defence tasks are also being studied ... The Government, as soon as it is in a position to do so, will inform the House, within the limits of security, of the general terms of understanding which are reached between the two Governments on this subject." & Please refer to separate note describing in greater detail the provisions of this agreement.
