SEP* 5 1S6T You will also recall that at the same time the State Department had informally raised with the Embassy the question of the appointment of a Committee of Deputies which might act for the Committee as and when required. It is to be assumed that inasmuch as the Aide Memoire makes no reference • ••^ Cy 000010 �to this matter the idea has been dropped. Moreover, the Aide Memoire reaches the conclusion that there is no need at this time for a meeting of the Combined Policy Committee as a whole or for the creation of more formal procedures to carry out the work being done. Inasmuch as the State Department has requested the Canadian Government's views on its Aide Memoire, I should be grateful for your comments. Should you agree with the conclusions of the Aide Memoire, we would propose to instruct the Embassy to inform the State Department that the Canadian Government concurs in the views expressed in the penultimate paragraph of the Aide Memoire.
